Epic! in the classroom

Recently, I read an article discussing the decline in students' reading. The article stated the cause of the decline was due to technology. I say we stop pointing fingers and bashing on the use of technology and combine technology into our reading reading! After a little research, I discovered a website called Epic!                                                        

So, what is Epic!?

• Epic is an ebook library that includes thousands of books for children. There are many genres from educational reading to pleasureful readings, as well as selected audio books. 

Why use Epic!?

• I believe this technology can increase students' readings. Since technology is a huge part of our lives, children will have easier and unlimited access to many, many books. Children will become more interactive while reading, or listening to the books on audio. 

As a future educator, it’s hard to engage every student when you don’t have the right book to put into the right child’s hand at the right time. Epic! offers additional features, including a read-to-me for younger readers, offline reading and reading badges for reaching certain levels and tasks. The content is personalized overtime as kids start reading, interacting and taking quizzes.
